There have been various kinds of researches conducted on the health of Indian women and unfortunately these reveal that health disparities and significant differences in access to health care for women in India. These disparities exist within families, where the boys and male members are discriminated against in terms of health and nutrition. In spite of the modern women emerging as one of the fastest income earners and growing careers, the rural women continue being subjected to discrepancies when it comes to health and nutrition. Even though there has been much progress in Indian public health since the past few decades, there is still a lot left to be done. The government has successfully managed to increase the capacity of the public health system and reach out to remote corners of the country, where medical health was unavailable. But the government cannot step into homes and ensure that the girl child is being fed the same amount of food that a boy child is being provided. Discrimination on the basis of gender still exists in social, economical and even nutritional factors in many rural and urban homes. The biggest problem with the gender conscience of India is that most statistics and surveys related to health fail to delve deeply and separate the effects of gender discrimination, even though discrimination on the basis of economy, class and ethnicity is there. Statistics had revealed that poor patients, who could not afford treatments, had discontinued their medical care at higher rates than richer patients. But after analyzing this data it was found that only 20 percent of this was relevant due to economic reasons and the other rest were discriminated on the basis of women, rich and poor. There is a lack of acknowledgment in the country where poor Indian women are healthier than wealthier Indian women. It has been researched that women underreported illnesses were about 124 percent as compared to that of men. The health care discrimination against Indian women starts from an early age and it continues till these girls grow and continues during pregnancy. Women should be responsible for their own health and should not take illnesses lightly or not get themselves treated for the same. These would only enhance the illness and result in more health problems for women. They need to be on their toes and not taking care of their health would have an adverse effect on their families also.
